Glenn Maxwell to be picked by this IPL team in 2026, Check out the reasons

Glenn Maxwell, the legendary all-rounder from Australia, has had a long history with the IPL wherein he has often been traded between multiple franchises.

Once again, the Punjab Kings have released him, and the IPL 2026 mini-auction will determine if he is going to move to yet another franchise through a team that will pick him.

The IPL retentions took place recently, and one of the highlights was the news from Chennai Super Kings that they had let go of multiple players, which means there are several slots left, and a whopping amount of over 40 crores is still available for CSK in the mini-auction.

Maxwell was once again let go by his team, Punjab Kings, after a very unsuccessful run as a batsman for them. The all-rounder who batted in the PBKS middle order was one of the weakest parts of the new dominating side of the IPL..

Glenn Maxwell to CSK on the cards?

Once the Kings released him, the speculation about a possible trade to CSK for Maxwell started mainly because the latter required an all-rounder particularly after their leading all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, was released.

Maxwell is in the right age group that would perfectly go with CSK’s usual policy of recruiting older players with experience, and he would also be the one to make the most of their relatively young squad. But the deal between these two teams was not made public, which is why Glenn Maxwell will again find himself up for bidding at the mini-auction.

The CSK squad, which possesses a hefty amount of money to utilize at the mini-auction, may be asking for his services, whereas the Kolkata Knight Riders, for example, might be in the race too, more so, as they have released a considerable number of their foreign players.

The legendary Australian all-rounder, who is 37, is frequently seen as a pillar of International T20I cricket. He has also been a continuous player in the IPL for many seasons since the first one in 2014 when he played for the Punjab Kings and impressed everyone.

He entered the IPL in 2012 with the Delhi Daredevils but the 2014 season brought him into the limelight when he became the Punjab Kings’ top scorer and the team reached the finals under his leadership. He also made a brief stop at the Mumbai Indians in 2013.

In the 2014 IPL season, Glenn Maxwell reached his highest run total so far, 552 runs in 16 matches. The Australian top scored with 95 and had an enormous strike rate of 187.75. After a big drop in performance, he fought back in 2017, then going back to the Delhi Daredevils.

Having frequent flops, his only remarkable season was with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021 when he scored 500+ runs for the second time in his career. Averaging 42.75 and striking below 145, this was Maxwell’s best and most consistent season with the bat.

Glenn Maxwell, who played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, after two more great seasons, in which he made 1266 runs, has had two seasons that he will always remember in IPL 2024 and 2025, where his batting average was under ten.

The Chennai Super Kings let go of some international players

The CSK squad has a reputation for experimenting with their great players and, hopefully, considering their objectives, they have decided to let go of Matheesha Pathirana. Pathirana was not spectacular, but he was still better than Rachin Ravindra or Sam Curran, who were underperforming.

The Chennai Super Kings have released players like Rachin Ravindra, Matheesha Pathirana, and Sam Curran, as the number of overseas slots open now would allow them to add the likes of all-rounder Glenn Maxwell.
