The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee added Anshul Kamboj to the Test squad before the 4th Test against England. This right-arm fast bowler has joined the team and practiced with the players in Manchester on Monday, July 21. Anshul, who plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, might make his Test debut soon after joining the national team. He previously played for the India A squad in the unofficial Test series against England Lions.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra questioned why Anshul was picked over Harshit Rana for a spot on Team India. Harshit remained in England after the unofficial Test series but went home later.
Aakash noted that it wasn’t clear why Anshul was called up instead of Harshit. He questioned the decision-making process, wondering how the team decides who to keep and who to let go. He mentioned that, based on India A performances, Anshul’s was superior.
Aakash expressed confusion about the choices, stating that since Harshit was kept with the squad before, he should have been kept this time too. He suggested the management might have their reasons.
Harshit was on the team for the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and played in two Tests in Australia. He debuted in ODIs in February 2025 and played on the team that won the Champions Trophy. To date, he has played in one T20I.
Harshit played in the India A-England Lions series. He took one wicket in one innings during the two-game series.
