Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has shared his perspective on the heated exchange between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli during an IPL 2023 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Shehzad believes that Gambhir’s actions stemmed from jealousy and expressed his disappointment at the incident. He defended Kohli’s involvement but questioned why Gambhir engaged in a war of words with his country’s star player.
Ahmed Shehzad expressed his disappointment with Gambhir’s behavior, suggesting that the former cricketer acted out of jealousy. Shehzad felt that Gambhir was waiting for an opportunity to create a controversy with Kohli and that his actions were driven by personal motives rather than genuine concerns.
“As a viewer, as a sportsman, this greatly hurt my feelings. It seemed like Gautam Gambhir was trying to do something out of jealousy. It looked like he was waiting for something to create a controversy with Virat,” Shehzad said.
Shehzad found Gambhir’s involvement in the on-field argument with Kohli to be uncommon, especially for a member of the team management. He highlighted that it was the first time he had witnessed such a confrontation between a mentor and a player during a cricket match.
Ahmed Shehzad defended Virat Kohli, stating that such incidents can occur on the field in the heat of the moment. He believed that Kohli’s argument with Naveen-ul-Haq, a player from the opposing team, was understandable. However, Shehzad failed to comprehend why Gambhir directed his gestures and comments toward his country’s prominent player, Kohli.
“It was really sad to see such an episode. I can understand that Kohli fought with the player from Afghanistan (Naveen-ul-Haq) because such things happen in the heat of the moment. But I did not understand why Gautam Gambhir showed such gestures towards the biggest player of his own country, Kohli,” Shehzad concluded.

Shehzad expressed his sadness regarding the incident, stating that it was disheartening to witness such a confrontation. While understanding Kohli’s involvement in a conflict with an opponent, he found Gambhir’s actions towards his compatriot perplexing and disappointing.
