Basit Ali, a former cricketer from Pakistan, called Nathan Lyon’s comment on Australia winning the next Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series against India by 5-0 “stupid”. During a podcast with Willow Talk on Tuesday, Lyon answered a question from former Australian cricketer Brad Haddin about what he thought the series would end up being and said “My prediction is 5-0 to Australia.” Basit condemned him and said such statements should not be made by cricketers. He even urged Ravichandran Ashwin to respond to Lyon’s comment. “I have only one thing to say regarding Nathan Lyon’s foolish statement that Australia will win six Tests against India, but only verbally as India dominated them in two previous series. That is not an appropriate language for cricketers. Ricky Ponting or other retired players could make those kinds of comments. I ask Ashwin to retort: India will beat Australia 5-0,” he said on YouTube
Although the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set for November this year, players have already begun voicing their enthusiasm at what promises to be an explosive
Lyon thinks Australia will have no trouble winning the series, but Head has said that Rohit Sharma’s side is “extremely difficult” for him.
Speaking to Star Sports, Head indicated that he does not “feel” India is his best choice since the Australians have played them enough times. The 30-year-old explained that he has been in good form over the last few years and was happy about being part of his team
“I do not think they are my favorites. We just get to play against them more often and this offset quite well for me personally over time, considering how I’ve been performing in recent seasons. So when it comes down to it, playing decently at least it’s always a pleasure. To rise up for a contest isn’t really hard especially when we know how toughly competitive our opponents are. In order words, ‘they are not really among my favorites at all’, as stated by Head.”
“difficult as it is i have played good in some games now preparation betterment and being ready are my watchwords however this summer should leave us smiling” too he said
The first test between India and Australia will be conducted at Perth on November 22 in the Border-Gavaskar series
