Former Indian Skipper Will Join Ahmedabad Franchise In The Women’s Premier League As Mentor

Recently, the Board Of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held an auction for the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League Franchises. In the first season of the Women’s Premier League, five teams will take part, and those are named in the top five cities of India; Delhi, Gujarat, Mumbai, Lucknow, and Bangalore.

Now the news is coming from the sources that the former Indian skipper will join the Women’s Premier League Ahmedabad franchise (Gujarat Giants) as the mentor in the first season. Earlier, she showed interest in playing T20 cricket, but the franchises might not be interested in taking her on the team, so they offered her a mentor role in the upcoming season.

“Mithali Raj was keen to play, but she is now all set to mentor the Gujarat team for the inaugural Women’s Premier League,” from a report by a media house.

“Yes there was interest from her side to play, particularly for the team based out of Mumbai but things didn’t quite materialize the way she would have wanted and a lucrative role with the Gujarat team came her way. It’s always good to have the presence of someone like Mithali in the camp. The vast experience across formats will only benefit the team she is going to be a part of,” the source of the media house further added.
Mithali Raj scored 2364 runs in 89 T20I matches with an interesting average of 37.52. She played her last T20I in 2019 against England at home, and this is another major concern for her to play in the upcoming WPL.

Mithali captained the Indian women’s team for a long time, and she was the face of the Indian side for a decade. Adding her name to the Women’s Premier League will boost the upcoming League’s brand value and enhance the team’s morale.
