Former Indian Off-Spinner Appointed As Interim Head Coach Of India Women’s Cricket Team For Bangladesh Tour

Former India offspinner Nooshin Al Khadeer has been appointed as the interim head coach of the women’s cricket team for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. Nooshin’s appointment comes after her successful stints as coach of the U-19 women’s team and the U-23 squad in recent tournaments.

Nooshin, the coach when India clinched the U-19 Women’s World Cup in South Africa earlier this year, also oversaw the U-23 squad’s triumph at the Emerging Women’s Asia Cup in Hong Kong. Her experience and track record were crucial in her selection for the interim head coach position.

The decision to appoint Nooshin as the interim head coach comes amidst speculation surrounding the appointment of former Mumbai cricketer Amol Mazumdar as the next head coach of the senior women’s cricket team. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), consisting of Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape, had recommended Mazumdar’s name. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to take more time before finalizing his appointment.

As a result, Mazumdar will not be accompanying the women’s squad for the Bangladesh tour, which includes three ODIs and three T20Is. The BCCI source mentioned that there is a break of a few months before the Indian women’s team plays international cricket, allowing them more time to decide on the head coach position.

The Indian women’s team is set to assemble in Mumbai before departing for Bangladesh. Nooshin’s experience as the current coach of Railways and her previous role as the bowling coach for the Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will bring valuable expertise to the team. Additionally, the support staff for the Bangladesh tour will include coaches from the National Cricket Academy, namely Apurva Desai, Rajib Dutta, and Subhadeep Ghosh.
