The biggest Twenty20 league in the world, the IPL, is all set to start in a month’s time. As per various media reports, the opening match of the IPL2024 is all set to be played on March 22.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said, “The cash-rich league will start on March 22, with Chennai Super Kings playing the season opener on their home ground. However, the opponents for the season opener have not been finalized yet.”
The IPL governing council and BCCI will be announcing the partial schedule of the league in the upcoming two days, while the whole schedule will be announced as soon as the election commission in India announces the dates for general elections.
Dhumal said that the IPL governing body will announce the schedule for the 12 days at the start, and then the entire schedule will be announced as per the dates of the general elections.
Also, as per some reports, there can be more centers involved in the tournament than just 10. The Election Commission of India will likely announce the dates for the election between the second and third weeks of March, after which IPL can confirm the full schedule. Dhumal is confident that the tournament is going to be held in India itself.
This will be the 17th season of the league, with the Chennai Super Kings being the defending champions. CSK, along with the Mumbai Indians, have gone on to win five titles each. CSK will once again be seen under the captaincy of Ms. Dhoni,while Hardik Pandya will be leading the Mumbai Indians in this season of the IPL.
