England Surprises Cricket Fans, Included Marcus Trescothick and Paul Collingwood As Substitute Fielder

India and England are facing each other in the fifth game of the five-match Test series against Dharamsala, which started today(March 07). In this match, England’s captain won the toss and elected to bowl first, and before the match started the England Cricket Team came with a surprise.

Right after the toss, England included their assistant coaches, Marcus Trescothick and Paul Collingwood, as substitute fielders for the ongoing fifth Test against India.

Currently, England is managing with a squad comprising only 13 fit players. Leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed had to leave India before the fourth Test due to a family emergency, resulting in his withdrawal from the series. The team chose not to nominate a replacement for the young spinner and proceeded with a squad of 14 players for the fourth Test.

In the ongoing fifth Test, England found themselves with just 13 fit players, as fast-bowler Ollie Robinson remained unwell and couldn’t join the team on the field. After that, they made the decision to enlist former players Marcus Trescothick and Paul Collingwood as substitute fielders for the squad.

This is not the first time an assistant coach has stepped in as a substitute fielder in recent times. In 2020, New Zealand had an assistant coach take the field as a substitute fielder during an ODI game against India.
