Veteran indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has confirmed that Star all rounder Axar Patel is all set to lead Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL season. Axar Patel captained the franchise in the previous season in just one match which was missed by Rishabh Pant. Ahead of the IPL mega auction the Spin all rounder was retained by the team for a whopping sum of 18cr.
However as of now official confirmation has been made by the Delhi team management but Dinesh Karthik who has gone on to captain the side in the past revealed during Cricbuzz’s HeyCB with DK show.
Dinesh Karthik was asked about his views on Hardik Pandya not being considered for the leadership role in the T 20 format and Axar patel being made the vice captain of the side ahead of Hardik
Speaking of the same Dinesh Karthik said, ““I really don’t know. I don’t know why he (Hardik) was snubbed of his vice-captaincy. I don’t see any reason to. They have done well. They have won in the bilaterals that he was the vice-captain. Not a clue. But for Axar Patel, all the very best. A good opportunity for him. Third, he is going to be the Delhi Capitals’ captain as well. So here is a good opportunity for him to lead and show the way. He has been doing that for Gujarat as well. So, wish him all the luck,”
With Axar patel set to lead the franchise in the upcoming season means that former LSG and Pbks skipper kl Rahul will now be seen playing purely as a batter for the team. The star batter was picked by the Delhi capitals for a huge sum of 14 cr in the mega auction of IPL 2025.
Now as Axar Patel takes the leadership duties it will be interesting to see that at what position does it kl Rahul plays for the team (as an opener or in the middle order )? The veteran has the experience of playing at the multiple positions but in the past has went on to play as an opener for both lucknow and Punjab franchises.
