Praising Virat Kohli for his superb century in the important Champions Trophy game against Pakistan last Friday, former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar observed that the star hitter is clearly destined to sparkle since he has a “big match temperament”. India’s commanding six-wicket victory over their arch-rivals hinged in part on Kohli&’s not-out century (100 not out). The victory also qualified India for a semifinal in a match to spare. Virat is a fantastic cricketer, among the finest globally. Despite his recent lack of runs, I knew he would deliver in a major game because of his ability to rise to the occasion. Vengsarkar said he has a great match temperament.
Looking back on Kohli&’s game-winning performance, Vengsarkar remarked, “He not only made a hundred but he also stayed not out right until the end, which is very much critical for the team.” From a veteran player, this kind of contribution is very meaningful.” He also complimented Kohli’s fitness and passion for the game and wished him continued success in the competition.
I want he maintains this form going into the rest of the meet. Vengarkar also remarked that India has a great chance to take home the Champions Trophy; he is quite fit, dedicated, and enthused about cricket.
“India are doing very well in every game they have played to date.” The squad has top-notch spinners as well as versatile players. Our prospects are very good. I wish they do well.
“Also very good are New Zealand and Australia, but they would need to change in Dubai. Vengsarkar aired his ideas on KL Rahul’s position as India’s appointed wicketkeeper before the fashionable Rishabh Pant in response to the ongoing wicketkeeping discussion; India, who have been in Dubai for some time, have the best chance to win.
“There is also a selection committee involved in these decisions; it is not only Gautam Gambhir”
“We must wait to see how Rahul works as wicketkeeper. India already in the semifinals, their last group A league game on Sunday will be against New Zealand; Pant has been brilliant in all formats, so let&’s be patient and see how events develop.
