Former CSK Star brutally exposes MS Dhoni’s captaincy style

The legendary Indian cricketer-wicketkeeper and the iconic player of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) MS Dhoni is all set for the new Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026). Before the IPL 2026 auction, MS Dhoni was retained by the five-time champions and the player who was left out was Ravindra Jadeja.

The team of Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran has been transferred to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the next season, and in turn, Sanju Samson will be playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Ruturaj Gaikwad is still going to lead CSK in the upcoming event, while Dhoni is physically fit, thus hard training for maybe his last IPL season.

Deepak Chahar remembers a fiery scene with MS Dhoni on Bigg Boss 19

In the course of IPL 2026, one of the close teammates of CSK legend has disclosed an incident that not only impacted him but also revealed the unique tough leadership of Dhoni.

Deepak Chahar, the ex pacer of CSK, during an appearance on Bigg Boss 19 shared a remarkable incident of a heated exchange with his Dhoni at the early stage of his IPL career. The young Indian pacer was there on the show to support his sister Malti Chahar during the family week.

While talking about it, the bowler recalled the high-octane 2019 IPL match between the Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings in Chennai. In that game, Chahar was entrusted with death over bowling for the first time. Punjab had to get 39 runs off 12 balls, and Sarfaraz Khan was at the crease.

When MS Dhoni reprimanded Deepak Chahar after two no-balls

The strategy was to deliver slow balls outside the leg stump to that Sarfaraz could not play his scoop shots, but Chahar’s first one was an instant no-ball which gave away five runs plus the next ball was another no-ball. The situation created a huge pressure on CSK and Chahar was feeling the heaviness of the moment.

Deepak Chahar made a statement on the program, “In that game, I was bowling at the death for the first time. Sarfaraz Khan was the one who was batting. We had already made a decision about what to bowl to him. Sarfaraz is a player who uses the scoop shot. Thus, if you throw him a slower ball, he will find it hard to hit.

Accordingly, I delivered a leg-cutter outside the leg stump. My leg got caught and it was a full toss. The match was thrilling. It was a no-ball and the ball went for a boundary too. I thought the plan was correct but the implementation was not right. Therefore, I bowled the same ball again and it was a no-ball once more.”

How MS Dhoni’s tough leadership turned Deepak Chahar’s over into a match-winner

During that moment, MS Dhoni lost his temper as Chahar confessed that the past CSK captain had yelled at him. But Dhoni reassured Chahar that the mistake was not completely his responsibility. This trivial demonstration of power made Chahar concentrated, and then the bowler could bring down his spirits and do the next few deliveries well.

He only let five runs more in that over and even got a wicket thereby switching the momentum back to the CSK side from Punjab. The CSK team ultimately defended 160/3, thus winning the match by 22 runs, and Chahar ended with the bowling figures of 1/40 in four overs.

Chahar concluded his statement with, “I thought my ending bowling career was over. Mahi Bhai came and he spoke to me in anger. He said, ‘Tu bewakoof nahi, main bewakoof hoon’ (You are not stupid, I am stupid). I thought I would not get to bowl again and I just put my head down and was listening. But in the next five or six balls, I gave only five runs and took a wicket as well, and we won the game.”

Deepak Chahar is recounting to Bigg Boss participants the incident when he was rebuked by MS Dhoni for delivering two consecutive no-balls.
