David Warner Names The Toughest Bowler He Has Ever Faced In Test Cricket

Star Australian opening batter David Warner has shared insights into the most challenging bowler he has encountered, reflecting on the 2016/17 Test series against South Africa. Warner is slated to conclude his Test cricket career after Australia’s third and final Test against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 3.

Warner claimed that the former South African bowler was the toughest one he ever faced in Test Cricket. Steyn, who concluded his career as South Africa’s leading wicket-taker in Tests, has 439 wickets in 93 matches.

While having a conversation with cricket. com. au, Warner named Steyn as the toughest bowler he’s faced while recalling an incident at the WACA. Steyn has the 10th-most wickets in the history of Test cricket.

“Without a doubt, it’s Dale Steyn. I went back to the WACA (the first Test of the 2016-17 home series against South Africa) when me and Shaun Marsh had to go out for an ugly 45-minute session. Shaun came down to me and said, ‘I can’t pull him so I don’t know how we’re going to go about facing him’. He put me on my backside and I think he broke his shoulder as well that game,” said Warner.

Warner further described Dale Steyn as an intense competitor, emphasizing that Steyn never allowed him any leeway on the field. Steyn concluded his international cricket with 439 wickets in Test matches, 196 wickets in ODIs, and 64 wickets in the shortest format of the game.

“He’s a fierce competitor who swung the ball back into the left-hander, which is similar to Mitchell Starc swinging the ball back into the right-hander at pace. He was always a fiery customer who never gave you a smile and never gave you an inch or a sniff on the field,” Warner added.
