Brett Lee, the ex-Australian fast bowler, shared his thoughts on the canceled India versus Pakistan game in the ongoing World Championships of Legends (WCL). WCL had stated that the India-Pakistan match at Edgbaston in Birmingham was canceled. Reports say that many past Indian stars didn’t want to play in the game.
The Indian players’ refusal to play Pakistan came after the awful terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam on April 22. After the attack, India and Pakistan’s relationship worsened.
Lee was asked what he thought about the match between the two rivals being canceled. He said, That is a hard question. I like both India and Pakistan. I hope they can value each other. But we are here for a tournament. It includes Australia, India, and South Africa. We are all together. So we just have to move on. We tried to make it happen. Lee is playing for Australia Champions.
WCL said it arranged the India-Pakistan game after a volleyball match between the two countries to give fans good memories. But it didn’t work out. The league said that the decision may have hurt many people’s feelings and made the Indian legends uncomfortable.
Because of this, they decided to call off the match. WCL apologized for any hurt feelings. Dhawan shared an email to the tournament organizers. He said that they told the organizers on May 11 that they wouldn’t play Pakistan. The email said that the decision was made because of the current political situation.
Dhawan posted on X, I still stand by the decision I took on May 11. My country means everything to me, and nothing is more important.
