Breaking News: Zimbabwe names a strong 17 member squad for the T 20 series against India

Zimbabwe has revealed their team of 17 players for the upcoming five T20 matches against India, which begin on July 6. Sikandar Raza will once again be the captain of the Zimbabwe team. The selection committee did not choose experienced players Sean Williams and Craig Ervine for this series. In addition, 25-year-old Antum Naqvi, who was born to Pakistani parents in Belgium, has been selected for the team. He has already applied to become a citizen of Zimbabwe, but his place on the team depends on him officially becoming a Zimbabwean citizen.

He is currently one of the most popular players in the country, scoring an average of 73.42 for the Rhinos in List A cricket. Additionally, in January 2024, he scored an impressive 300 runs without being dismissed in a first-class cricket match, making him the first player to achieve this. Tendai Chatara, Brandon Mavuta, and Wesley Madhevere have rejoined the team, while players like Ryan Burl, Joylord Gumbie, and Ainsley Ndlovu have been removed from the squad.

Dion Myers, Innocent Kaia, and Milton Shumba are among the players who have returned to Zimbabwe’s T20 International team for the highly anticipated series against India. Zimbabwe did not take part in the recent T20 World Cup held in the West Indies and the USA, which India won, because they did not qualify for the event.

This series against India marks the first task for Zimbabwe’s new head coach, Justin Simmons, who took over after Dave Houghton stepped down following the team’s failure to qualify for the major tournament. All five T20 matches between India and Zimbabwe will be held in Harare, starting from July 6 and ending on July 14.

Zimbabwe squad for India series: Sikandar Raza (captain), Faraz Akram, Brian Bennett, Johnathan Campbell, Tendai Chatara, Luke Jongwe, Innocent Kaia, Clive Madande, Wessly Madhevere, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, Brandon Mavuta, Blessing Muzarabani, Dion Myers, Antum Naqvi, Richard Ngarava, Milton Shumba
