The Delhi Capitals have signed Gulabdin Naib as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh for the upcoming IPL season. The Delhi Capitals had earlier announced on their X account when Mitchell Marsh suffered an injury.
After suffering an injury, Marsh headed back to Australia for his rehabilitation process.
Later on, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting confirmed that Marsh would not return to the IPL as he has not fully recovered from injury.
Gulabdin Naib is set to play in the IPL for the first time. He was in top form when India played Afghanistan in the three-match T-20 series. Naib had scored 112 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 193.
IPL later confirmed the signing of Gulabdin Naib, who was signed by Delhi Capitals at a base price of 50 lakh.
An official statement was released that said, “Delhi Capitals have signed Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh for the remainder of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Marsh has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury.
Naib has represented Afghanistan in 82 one-day internationals (ODIs) and 65 T20 internationals (T20Is) so far. A right-handed batter and a medium pacer, this will be his first stint in the Tata IPL. Naib signs in for his reserve price of INR 50 lakhs.”
The Delhi Capitals are currently placed at number 6 in the points table; they will be next seen in action against the Mumbai Indians on April 27.
