Recently, director Rajkumar Hirani has begun filming for Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki. The “donkey flight” themed social comedy has so far been filmed in Mumbai, London, Budapest, and Saudi Arabia, and now it will be shot in the village of Punjab. It is reported that more than half of the filming has already been done, and it is anticipated to be finished by May 2023.
Dunki starring Shahrukh Khan will hit the theatres on December 23 on the eve of Christman. Now, what Rajkumar Hirani will make right after the Dunki is very interesting. It is said that the director is ready to make the biopic of Lala Amarnath who is the first Indian batter to score an international century. The life of Lala Amarnath, the first cricket captain of Independent India, will be the subject of Rajkumar Hirani’s next movie.
After Sanju, the filmmaker of 3 Idiots and PK is returning to biopics, and this time he will recount the life of a sporting personality widely regarded as one of the forefathers of Indian cricket. The source close to the development said, “Rajkumar Hirani has been planning a biopic on Lala Amarnath since 2019. In fact, it was one of the two scripts he had offered to SRK, but the superstar chose Dunki, and the biopic was put on hold for the time being. After Dunki’s release, Hirani wants to revive the Lala Amarnath biopic and has asked his writing team to finish the script by the year’s end. It’s a story Hirani has been very passionate about and is committed to starting work on it right after Dunki is out of his system.”
In this as-yet-untitled biopic, Rajkumar Hirani will work alongside Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under Excel Entertainment. The script has reportedly been written by Piyush Gupta, who also wrote Dangal and Chhichhore, and Neeraj Singh, who wrote Nil Battey Sannata.
The sources further added, “Lala Amarnath’s biopic is not a typical sports biopic. Hirani will tell his story in his usual entertaining way, beautifully highlighting Lala’s career, his spasmodic brilliance, and his enduring influence on Indian cricket. An A-list young star is expected to star in this film; however, the director will finalize someone only after he is done with Dunki’s shooting.”
