England Cricket fans must be hoping to see Ben Stokes in the upcoming ODI World Cup. The all-rounder has got the ODI retirement, but speculations are right there that he might take a U-turn for the tournament.
In the first match of this ICC tournament, former champion England will clash against New Zealand on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
The England cricket fans have got a boost as news surfaces about Ben Stokes reversing his ODI retirement to compete in the upcoming ICC global event. Matthew Mott, England’s white-ball coach, emphasised that the participation of the Test captain is the focal point capturing everyone’s attention.
“Jos Buttler will probably lead the way on that communication, but Ben’s pretty straight with all of us. We will see if he’s keen,” Mott told Daily Mail.
While appreciating Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope said that Ben Stokes is a player any team would be fortunate to have. He expressed his belief that the exceptional all-rounder would have a fantastic tournament if he participated.
“Ben Stokes is someone who loves playing for England. He’s a player that any England team is lucky to have in its side. Obviously he has his knee (issues), it’s no secret that he has been trying to manage that. It’s great for him that he feels he’s in a place where he can go and make a big contribution in a tournament like the World Cup. Any team that has Ben Stokes is a better team. If these rumours are true, I think he’s going to have an amazing tournament,” Pope said
