BCCI’s Claim 158 Crores Default, NCLT Sends Notice To Byju’s, Check The Reports

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has stirred the cricketing world by accusing Byju of defaulting on a payment of Rs 158 crore. This financial dispute has caught the National Company Law Tribunal’s (NCLT) attention, raising questions about the future partnership between the educational giant and the cricketing body.

In a recent petition, BCCI claims dues of Rs 158 crore as an operational creditor under section 9 of the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code 2016. The allegation sheds light on a potential breach of financial commitments by Byju’s, a company that entered into a significant partnership with BCCI in 2019.

The National Company Law Tribunal should have spent more time addressing the matter. By issuing a notice to Byju, the NCLT has set a timeline of two weeks for the education-related firm to file a case in response. This legal development brings the intricacies of the financial dispute to the forefront.

BCCI, through the NCLT, has communicated the default amount of Rs 158 crore to Byju’s, excluding TDS. The petition aims to secure the financial interests of BCCI and seeks resolution through legal channels.

“It is stated that the General notice was issued to BYJU’s vide email dated 06.01.2023 and the default amount of Rs.158 crore. excluding TDS as reflected. Two weeks is granted to the Respondent (Byju’s) to file a reply and one week thereafter is granted to the Applicant (BCCI) to file rejoinder, if any, after duly serving the copy on the other side.”

The ball is now in Byju’s court as they face the two-week deadline to respond to the allegations. This section will delve into Byju’s potential legal strategies, their response to the accusations, and the trajectory of the dispute within the legal framework.
