The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League will begin next month. This will work as a booster for Women’s cricket and help women in another field. A total of five teams will compete with each other to win the first title of the WPL season. These teams are named on five Indian cities – Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow and Bengaluru. The tournament will be played after the Women’s T20 World Cup’s conclusion and before the 2023 IPL.
BCCI will have to organize a player auction before the Women’s Premier League starts. And as per the reports, the player’s auction may happen next week. The auction can happen in Delhi or Mumbai on February 11 or 13. No official information is provided on the date or place of the auction.
However, as per the media house report, it is clearly mentioned that BCCI is facing difficulty finding a convenient hotel to hold the auction due to the ongoing wedding season in India. And that is the reason why the venue for the auction has been closed.
The auction for the women’s players was initially scheduled to take place in the first week of Feb but was postponed due to the ongoing International League T20 (ILT20). Since four of the five franchise owner’s teams are also part of the ongoing ILT20, they requested that the auction be held after the conclusion of that tournament.
The BCCI has accepted the request of the franchises board member and most likely announce the date for the auction is February 13, as the ILT20 final is on February 12.
A representative of the Women’s Premier League said, “The BCCI is discussing the dates, but February 11 (Saturday) and 13th (Monday) have been shortlisted. February 13 would be a convenient date for most of the franchisees. We need to give time to the teams to plan the auction.”
