BCCI Appointed Amol Muzumdar As New Head Coach Of Indian Cricket Team

In a significant development for Indian women’s cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former Mumbai cricketer Amol Muzumdar as the head coach of the women’s team. This move comes after careful deliberation by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), and it has generated much enthusiasm within the cricketing fraternity.

The Cricket Advisory Committee, composed of Ms. Sulakshana Naik, Mr. Ashok Malhotra, and Mr. Jatin Paranjape, played a pivotal role in selecting the head coach. They interviewed shortlisted candidates in Mumbai on 3rd July and made their recommendation after extensive discussions.

Reports suggest that Amol Muzumdar’s 90-minute presentation left a lasting impression on the committee. His insights and vision for the Indian women’s cricket team resonated well with the CAC.

Following the interviews, the committee took its time to announce the result. Finally, on Wednesday, 25th October, it was officially revealed that Amol Muzumdar had been appointed head coach.

BCCI President Roger Binny expressed his confidence in the new appointment. He stated, “I welcome the appointment of Mr. Amol Muzumdar as the Head Coach of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. I am confident that the team will continue to rise and perform well across different game formats under his tenure. The team has consistently delivered impressive performances in bilateral and multi-nation events, and I am certain our players will benefit immensely under Mr. Muzumdar’s guidance and roadmap.” 

BCCI secretary Jay Shah underlined Muzumdar’s experience with him, stating, “The BCCI is strongly committed to women’s cricket and will continue to provide an environment necessary for the team to excel both on and off the field.”

Amol Muzumdar shared his thoughts on the appointment, expressing his honor and commitment to the role. He acknowledged the significant responsibility of this position but emphasized his dedication to delivering his best.

Muzumdar highlighted the importance of the next two years, during which two World Cups are scheduled. He expressed his intent to work closely with the talented players, providing them with the right preparation and guidance to excel.

Amol stated, “I am deeply honored and privileged to be appointed Head Coach of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. I thank the CAC and the BCCI for trusting me and believing in my vision and the roadmap for Team India. This is a huge responsibility, and I look forward to working closely with talented players and providing them with the right preparation and guidance to excel. The next two years are extremely important as two World Cups are scheduled. Together with the coaching and support staff, we will look to tick every box and give ourselves the best chance to succeed.” 

Amol Muzumdar has been a prominent figure in the domestic cricket circuit. He has amassed over 11,000 first-class runs in 171 matches, a feat embellished by 30 centuries. His consistent performances have made him a revered figure in Indian cricket.

Furthermore, Muzumdar has won Ranji Trophy titles with Mumbai, solidifying his legacy as a player and a potential coach.
