Australia has announced a 14-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia. The squad also includes Glenn Maxwell, who has been given a rest for the ODI series. However, the pace bowling pair of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins has not been included in the squad due to “ongoing minor physical issues.” Star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will be taking the captaincy charge for the team.
The Australian pacers have undergone a challenging home summer, participating in five consecutive Test matches. However, given the significance of the shortest format in 2024, especially with the T20 World Cup scheduled for June, it is anticipated that they will make a return and participate in the T20I series against New Zealand.
In addition to Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood, another player who has been given a break is Steve Smith. Players like David Warner and Tim David, who are currently participating in the International League T20 (ILT20), have also been included in the squad.
Marsh had captained the Australian squad during the tour of South Africa in September, and Matthew Wade took on the captaincy in the next five-match away series against India after the 2023 ODI World Cup.
The T20I series between Australia and West Indies is scheduled to take place from February 9 to February 13, with the matches set to be held in Hobart, Adelaide, and Perth.
