The Asia Cup T20 tournament in September is in doubt. Relations between India and Pakistan have been tense after the Pahalgam attack in April, which has affected sports between them.
Recently, an India versus Pakistan match at the World Championship of Legends was called off because Indian players withdrew. Pakistan’s hockey team might not travel to India for the Asia Cup next month either.
India is supposed to host the cricket Asia Cup, but the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) hasn’t announced the schedule or location. September is being considered as a possible time frame.
A meeting to decide on scheduling was planned for July 24 in Dhaka, but India didn’t attend. The BCCI and BCB decided to delay India’s Bangladesh tour from August 2025 to September 2026.
Mohsin Naqvi, who heads the ACC, is trying to put unneeded pressure on India about the meeting, according to an ANI source. The BCCI asked for a change of venue but hasn’t received an answer.
Cricbuzz reports that the ACC meeting has become a geopolitical problem. An insider said that Aminul Islam of the BCB could have been more careful when the PCB president asked him to host the meeting. The insider mentioned Aminul might have agreed too fast because he didn’t fully grasp the geopolitical situation.
