Anrich Nortje makes a new record overtakes this former South African great

South Africa kept their winning streak alive in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by defeating the current champions England in a close match that went down to the last over on Friday, June 21 in Saint Lucia. Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone put up a strong fight with a 78-run partnership, but when Livingstone was dismissed in the 18th over, the game shifted. Brook’s dismissal on the first ball of the final over-sealed England’s fate, and once again, it was Anrich Nortje who made the difference for South Africa.

Captain Aiden Markram made a fantastic catch that should have received more praise for getting the batsman out, but in the end, Nortje finished the job as South Africa won by only seven runs. With that wicket, Nortje became South Africa’s top wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup, beating the record of the legendary Dale Steyn, who had taken 30 wickets in the tournament.

That one wicket also allowed Nortje to keep his impressive streak of taking at least one wicket in every T20 World Cup game he has played. Nortje now leads the list with at least one wicket in 16 straight innings in the tournament.
