After Trent Boult, Now This New Zealand Star Leaves The Central Cricket Contract Of His Country

After Trent Boult, now New Zealand’s veteran opening batter Martin Guptill has opted out from the central cricket contract. After Boult and Colin De Grandhomme. Guptill took this decision just after the conclusion of the New Zealand vs India T20I series as he was not part of the squad.

Guptill has been serving New Zealand for a decade and he is the leading run-scorer for his country in T20Is. However, the growth of Finn Alen as an opener has brought an impact on the veteran’s availability.

If we talk about the decision, the batter is still looking to contribute and play for New Zealand but at the same time, he is looking for some other opportunities as well. The reports claim that Guptill will be participating in the next edition of the Big Bash League.

A statement has been issued by the New Zealand cricket board in which Guptill said, “Playing for my country has been a massive honor, and I’m grateful to everyone within the Blackcaps and NZC for their support. But, equally, I’m realistic enough to understand the need to consider my options in the current circumstances. With this release, I’m still available for New Zealand, I have the chance to explore other opportunities, and I also get to spend more time with my family – which is important.”

New Zealand Cricket Chief David White also welcomed the decision of Guptill and thanked them for all the contributions he has made to date. White said, “We understand Martin’s position. He’s been a fantastic batsman for us for a long period, and we certainly don’t wish to stand in his way as he explores other opportunities. Martin’s been a giant of the white ball game, a committed and well-respected member of the Blackcaps, and has earned the right to play out his career on his terms. He leaves his contract with our best wishes.”
