Aakash Chopra Names The Backup Opener For Team India In ODI World Cup 2023

The 50-over World Cup is approaching day by day and wicket-keeping is the main concern for team India for this marquee event. Rishabh Pant is out from the team and recovering the injury which he got from the accident. KL Rahul is also out from the team due to hamstring injury and Ishan Kishan is the one of those rarest options as the wicket-keeper. However, former India opener Aakash Chopra is still uncertain for Ishan Kishan being the wicket-keeper for Indian in the ICC ODI World Cup.

The ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place in India from October 5 to November 19 this year. Kishan has been chosen as one of the openers in the 17-member squad for the Men in Blue’s upcoming ODI series against the West Indies. He is considered to be a strong candidate for securing a place in the squad for the upcoming event as well.

Aakash Chopra gives his views on the upcoming World Cup and said that apart from Shikhar Dhawan, Ishan Kishan is one left-handed opening option. However, the commentator is not sure if Ishan Kishan will come to the squad as backup opener.

Aakash Chopra said,”There is another left-hander. His name is Ishan Kishan. Prima facie, it seems like he is an obvious choice because you have to keep three openers – so Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. Ishan Kishan is a frontrunner logically, but is he a frontrunner?”

The former Indian opener said that Ishan Kishan holds a position in this elite squad only on the basis of permanence.

The commentator said,”Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will open and Ishan Kishan can be your backup opener. From a discussion point of view, it is absolutely right – he has scored an ODI double century, he pulls his weight into the side whenever given a chance, so his name should be there.”
