Mustafizur Rahman now set to play PSL amid all around drama

Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has joined Lahore Qalandars for Season 11 of the Pakistan Super League. This move happened only days after Kolkata Knight Riders released him to prepare for the upcoming Indian Premier League.

The Qalandars confirmed the signing through a direct agreement, bringing Mustafizur back into the PSL fold after his sudden exit from the IPL setup.

IPL vs PSL contract: Sharp financial contrast

Mustafizur’s PSL contract has been agreed at PKR 6.44 crore, which is approximately Rs 2 crore in Indian currency. The Bangladesh pacer was expected to receive Rs 9.2 crore through his IPL agreement with KKR before his release, which shows a large financial difference between both contracts.

The PSL agreement has a value that is approximately 77 percent lower than his IPL salary. The Qalandars salary reduction reflects different financial structures between the two leagues instead of any contract changes which they forced onto him. The PSL operates with significantly lower salary slabs than the IPL, where franchise revenues and broadcast valuations allow for far higher player contracts.

Exit from IPL and wider developments

The Board of Control for Cricket in India ordered Mustafizur’s KKR roster removal. The board did not publicly outline the grounds for the decision. The organization declared “developments all across” which occurred during India-Bangladesh diplomatic relations deterioration.

Bangladesh announced its withdrawal from the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup when their security concerns reached a critical level. This decision occurred despite the International Cricket Council maintaining a low threat perception for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan declared a limited military withdrawal after it decided not to participate in its major match against India because it wanted to support Bangladesh’s position. The events that unfolded created a situation where Mustafizur became the main focus of international relations and cricketing consequences although the athlete chose to remain silent to the public.

Lahore adds experienced players to its bowling unit which helps form its bowling unit better. The T20 operator who will join Lahore Qalandars brings his extensive league experience to the team. Mustafizur delivers his best performance in all conditions because of his ability to create cutters and change his bowling speed and maintain control during the final overs of a match.

“Once a Qalandar, always a Qalandar. Mustafizur is not just a player; he’s a brother and a key part of our family,” said Sameen Rana, owner of Lahore Qalandars.

Mustafizur had previously represented the franchise during the 2016 and 2018 seasons, giving him familiarity with the league as he looks to put recent off-field turbulence behind him.
