Why is Trent Boult Not Playing for New Zealand in T20 World Cup 2026?
The question on everyone’s lips is “Why is Trent Boult not playing for New Zealand in T20 World Cup 2026?” but the answer is a pretty simple one: He retired from international cricket after the previous T20 World Cup in 2024
Why is Trent Boult Not Playing for New Zealand in T20 World Cup 2026?
The fact that Trent Boult won’t be in the Kiwis squad in T20 World Cup 2026 has really got people talking since New Zealand announced their side – and the reason for that is he retired from international cricket back in June 2024.
At the grand old age of 34, Treants Boult made the difficult decision to hang up his international cricket boots – which meant he wasn’t even in the running for a spot in the T20 World Cup 2026, so New Zealand had to start looking at other options.
Trent’s last international outing was in a group stage match against Papua New Guinea in the previous T20 World Cup and things had already began to wind down for him prior to that – in 2022 he even got released from New Zealand’s central contract list and ended up with a reduced contract because he wanted to spend a bit more time at home with the family and play in some franchise leagues.
Trent Boult Putting in Shifting Gears in Franchise Cricket
New Zealand are really feeling the pinch without having access to Trent Boult’s talents of late. Yet he just keeps racking up the value with teams like the Mumbai Indians and other franchise outfits, and has kept delivering results in this whole time.
To be honest, he’s still a game-changer in the shortest format – always good for a few early wickets in the powerplay overs, and then uses his head and gets the job done when it matters at the death to shut the door on opponents or wrap up a close contest. Not to mention he’s got plenty of experience in the IPL, plus last year he also turned out for MLC, SA20, and the Men’s Hundred.
Unfortunately for New Zealand though, they’ve managed to compensate somewhat for losing their veteran star with a really strong pace bowler line up, but losing someone of Boult’s calibre – especially with all his know-how and experience – would definitely be a blow. I reckon his skills would have made a huge difference in a number of areas.
