RCB drops a massive statement on playing in Chinnaswamy stadium

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have shown their interests to play at Chinnaswamy Stadium in the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season. However, the franchise while seeking clarity in the guidelines set by the Karnataka government also wants the ‘grey areas’ to be cleared. In a press conference of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), president Venkatesh Prasad informed that the communication had been one-sided regarding RCB’s home matches until now.

As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, RCB is looking for clarity about a provision that makes the event organisers responsible for any incident at or around the venue. RCB is asking for a clear-cut understanding about this ruling since there will be three other parties involved – KSCA, BCCI and the Karnataka state government.

“Even though we want to host matches at our home ground and in front of our most loyal fans, we feel it is our responsibility to completely understand the regulations that govern hosting matches here and the security protocols that would be in place for the safety of the fans. Our objective is to find the best way for all the parties concerned to cooperate.”

“From our initial talks, there are still some grey areas that need attention, and we will be considering these factors along with input from all parties involved before making a responsible decision that is good for the team and our fans,” said RCB in a statement. It was earlier reported that the RCB is considering playing their home matches at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai and in Raipur.

What was the KSCA’s position on the issue?

On Wednesday, Venkatesh Prasad, the president of KSCA, presented the responsibility to RCB to open up a proper conversation with the government that would lead to the uninterrupted matches during the IPL. “The government authorities would not have granted us a green signal unless they were sure of the timelines we had given them, of the work we would do based on the report we had received,” said Prasad.
