Two years after the announcement of his retirement from international cricket, the Pakistani fast bowler Ehsan Adil is about to make a comeback to the peak of the sport. The 32-year-old has been selected to represent the USA at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. The squad he is in will be flying to the subcontinent later this month.
The quick bowler was a significant component of the Pakistan team until a specific moment, after which he decided to leave international cricket to pursue franchise cricket opportunities. He was not the only player who took that step in order to gain more freedom and time, but his international career with Pakistan could barely span nine matches.
Ehsan Adil has played three Tests and six ODIs for Pakistan, taking a total of as many wickets in each format. Moreover, he was also part of the U19 World Cup squad for Pakistan in 2012, when his career’s trajectory started to take off. Brilliant figures got him a Test call-up for Pakistan against South Africa.
Can the Ex-Pakistan Fast Bowler Facilitate USA in Making History?
The cricket team of the United States of America (USA) has already offered a sneak peek into what they are capable of doing at the highest level. Under the captaincy of Monank Patel, the team opened their campaign with wins over Canada and Pakistan, with the second match going to a Super Over. Saurabh Netravalkar was the standout bowler as he did not only trouble but also shattered the top-orders of several teams.
In the majority of instances, the bowlers who opened were Ali Khan and Netravalkar, and they were able to achieve success in the first two matches. The pair almost caused a panic in India during the third group stage match. Nonetheless, they did not manage to get over the line against the Men in Blue. This is not to say, though, that Ehsan Adil will not be an asset to the USA side’s pace bowling attack, with Netravalkar and Ali Khan’s inclusion in the squad again.
The main thing that the USA will try to obtain from the prestigious tournament is the getting ready for the next time against the big ones. Their performance against India was super but they were beaten bad by the West Indies and England which were their last two league games. In the group stage, they will next play against India, Pakistan, the Netherlands, and Namibia.
The 32-year-old fast bowler from Pakistan, who will play for the US team in the 2026 T20 World Cup, does not have much speed left in his wings. Yet, he has taken 94 wickets in his T20 career which spans 79 matches and also includes a couple of four-wicket hauls. Monank Patel & Co. may want to stick with Ali Khan and Netravalkar for the opening partnership but Ehsan Adil could be a valuable asset during the middle overs.
