Left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh shared some insights about India’s training session before their crucial Tests in England, starting at Headingley on June 20. He’s joined the Test squad, stepping in for Harshit Rana and Mohammed Shami. Arshdeep has teamed up with Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, and Mohammed Siraj, and has been challenging the Indian batters in practice while looking to get his rhythm back.
In a recent session, he bowled to Shubman Gill, the new Test captain, and youngster Sai Sudharsan. Arshdeep enjoyed the competition, stating, There was a lot of competitiveness with the batters. We had fun. As bowlers, we had to come up with good plans to get them out. Sai looked compact, and the skipper seemed in good form. I’ll keep the banter going and hope to get the upper hand on them.
For Arshdeep, the goal was to get his body back in sync with the Test format after a long stint in white-ball cricket. I wanted to get a feel for how the red ball comes off the hand since a lot of us had been playing white-ball for quite a while. The intensity will ramp up, and we’ll aim to challenge the batters more, he explained.
Having played in the County Championship before, Arshdeep is looking forward to possibly making his debut alongside the renowned Jasprit Bumrah. While he feels confident in his abilities, he acknowledges there’s no comparing himself to someone like Bumrah. Whenever I grab the ball, I believe I’m the best. But with a player like Bumrah in the mix, it’s not about comparing. The focus is really on improving each other’s skills and helping the team, he said.
