Dale Steyn, the former fast bowler for the South Africa cricket team, took a jab at Chennai Super Kings for sending Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin to bat in the Top 5 during their IPL 2025 match against Rajasthan Royals. They picked both all-rounders to bat after CSK had a rough start, instead of going with Dewald Brevis and MS Dhoni. Unfortunately for CSK, Jadeja and Ashwin didn’t do much, getting out for just 13 and 1 runs. Steyn shared his thoughts on social media and jokingly said, “CSK 3 down and they send 2 bowlers to bat. Sometimes I feel their math is not mathing.”
In the same match, Dhoni offered advice to young Indian players, urging them to stay calm under pressure and work on being consistent if they want to reach their potential. CSK lost to Rajasthan Royals by six wickets and remained at the bottom of the IPL table. Rajasthan finished their disappointing 2025 season with a solid win, thanks to a mature 57 runs from Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
Dhoni emphasized the need for consistency, mentioning that aiming for a high strike rate can make it tough to maintain it. He said, “Don’t take pressure when expectations rise… learn from senior players and coaches… it’s about reading the game.” Dhoni noted that his team lost a couple of early wickets, which added pressure on the middle order.
He praised Brevis for his sensible innings, acknowledging that while the run rate was good, losing those extra wickets early hurt them. He also spoke highly of pacer Kamboj, saying he moves the ball well and bowls tough overs during the powerplay. Meanwhile, Rajasthan’s captain Sanju Samson recognized that his side made some mistakes and could have performed better. He mentioned, “The way people view the powerplay shows there’s not much difference in the quality of teams. The margin for winning and losing is small, and we need to do a proper review.”
