Young Opening batsman, Sam Konstas from Australia, has opened his Test career on a fine note. He scored a fabulous half-century in his first Test innings at 4th Test, against India, played in Melbourne. He scored a brilliant 60 runs off just 65 balls, appearing completely at ease against bowlers Bumrah and Siraj. He became an instant favorite for the MCG crowd when he went to battle with star Indian batter Kohli after being shouldered by him during his innings.
He was also spotted gesturing after the dismissals of Kohli and Bumrah in the second innings. However, former Australia batter Michael Hussey said these actions would come back to haunt him.
Jasprit Bumrah cleaned him up with a ripper in the second innings when Konstas was batting on 8. The bowler replicated the same celebration made by the former at the end of the first innings.
Hussey referred to Konstas’ early theatrics in the first innings: “It always comes back to bite you at some stage. I wonder if Sam Konstas is back in the dressing rooms thinking, ‘I wish I charged him’.” It just makes the battle all the more spicy between the two nations,” Hussey said on Fox Sports.
“You don’t see a lot of theatrics from Bumrah, but when Sam Konstas was dismissed, he thought, ‘Yep, I’m here as well,” he said.
Meanwhile, Australia stubbornly fight up to 228-9 before play on day four with a massive lead of 333 runs in the fourth Test sweeping up interest. Australia, 105 runs ahead in the first innings, had their defensive walls ripped down midway through the second session with the loss of four wickets for 11 runs, slumping on to 91-6.
At the same time, Bumrah rattled through the middle order on the fourth day at Melbourne to take figures of 4-56 from 24 overs and give India an outside chance of winning a match the home team had largely stamped their authority over.
But the defense was broken by an obstinate rear guard of 55 runs without a loss off 17.5 overs.
Nathan Lyon was 41 not out, with number 11 Scott Boland having weathered 65 balls for his 10 runs at stumps.
