R Ashwin drops a massive hint on the future Captain of RCB

Who will captain the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for 2025? The whole cricket fraternity has been buzzing ever since the news came of the release of Faf du Plessis from the franchise. Even in the mega auction, RCB failed to rope in any captain, leaving this big question unanswered. It was later, however, said by former RCB star AB de Villiers, that Virat Kohli would come back as their captain. Now, Ravichandran Ashwin, the well-known spinner of India, has made the same assessment.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Ashwin strongly hinted that Kohli would captain the side, as RCB had not bought any other captaincy candidate into the team.

“I think he is most likely going to be the captain, so to say, because they haven’t bought any such captain. I mean, unless-and-until: they are going with somebody else,” said Ashwin in a video posted on his official YouTube handle.

He also spoke highly of the auction RCB held, stating that the franchise was doing quite well in roping the kind of talent they did in that 2-day event.

“I actually personally think they had a terrific auction. They balanced it and waited it out. Most teams came into this auction with many crores in their purses. They came blazing right in the front but RCB played the waiting game even though they had a lot of money. Who do I need? They are the ones I need. My overall team is important. My 12 or 14 is important,” said Ashwin.

“What exactly will be successful under these circumstances? I need that sort of a side. I want that team. Although I have RTMs, I’m not going to use them. I’ll just pick whoever I want in the selection. I will continue according to the strategy until the end,” he added. Earlier on, RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, had also responded to the noise surrounding captaincy in the franchise. He, however, included that there had yet to be a decision concerning the captaincy, despite acknowledging the stature that Kohli holds in the team.

“Virat is a central figure; he is senior-most in the team. But we haven’t made any decision regarding captaincy. We’ll decide later on,” said Bobat, RCB’s Director of Cricket.
