The rise in tensions between India and Pakistan is further exacerbated by India’s withdrawal from travelling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. There have been no bilateral series played by the two sides in over 10 years, largely because of the political hostilities and while Pakistan came to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Indian government did not approve the return favor. Previously, India had made known its intention to adopt what has now been became known as the ‘hybrid’ model which entailed the national team playing all its matches in Dubai only for it to be modified by Pakistan.
As reported by Geo News, India putting down the pen maintains that need not be when introduction and will more so cause upon themselves against all other countries preparation to play India. India has also expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics, which has been formally requested. It, however, notes that Pakistan will be against it.
On the other hand, the Pakistan Cricket Board will request the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) position regarding the Champions Trophy organization’s venue, since they have only been informed that India will not take part in the tournament, so there was not a single mention about the proposed hybrid model.
Pakistan cricket board was advised of this following B.C.C.I’s declaration to world cricket that ‘its national team will not tour Pakistan’.
“Right now not even the faintest notion of conducting the Championship on a Hybrid Model begs consideration,” a reliable source from the PCB said.
That is, to say that India’s matches were in Sri Lanka while the rest of the matches were in Pakistan, the hybrid model prevailed during the last year’s Asia Cup.
Dubai is being postulated as a likely venue for the matches involving India in a tournament that is set for the next month of February.
“We need to formulate and send an email to ICC together with its legal department, where the Board previously sought answers from the ICC concerning the Indian ruling,” said the source.
“At this stage, the PCB is still assessing the overall situation. No course of action has been determined. Yes, the PCB is communicating with the government for advice and guidance if it becomes necessary.”
