Yuzvendra Chahal Will Play In The 2023 ODI World Cup Or Not? Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar Gives His Verdict

The Chief Selector of BCCI, Ajit Agarkar, has given his verdict on Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal’s selection for the upcoming ODI World Cup. On Monday, August 21, BCCI announced the Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament. In this squad, the star leg-spinner of the team, Chahal, did not find a place, and fans were keen to know whether he will be there in the ODI World Cup or not.

While talking about Kuldeep Yadav and Chahal, Ajit Agarkar said that the Chinaman, Kuldeep Yadav, has the upper hand in comparison to Chahal in the race for the selection in the ODI World Cup.

Chahal’s exclusion holds importance as Agarkar acknowledged that the World Cup roster is likely to resemble the Asia Cup. Agarkar commented on the leg-spinner’s removal during the team announcement press conference.

Ajit Agarkar said, “He’s been a terrific performer for India, but sometimes, it’s just the balance of the team or the combination. You are looking at guys. Axar Patel has done really well.”

He further added, “He can bat as well. Kuldeep’s obviously had a fantastic run. To fit two wrist-spinners might be difficult. You can also fit 15, at this point 17, we are a little bit fortunate we can take a couple of extra guys. Otherwise, to fit two wrist-spinners.”

He concluded, “Unfortunately, one has to miss out. I think, at this point, Kuldeep’s a little bit ahead. He gives us a different kind of option. Unfortunately, he (Chahal) has to miss out.”
