KL Rahul’s persistent injury troubles have resurfaced again, casting a shadow over his participation in the Asia Cup 2023. The talented cricketer, who has been an integral part of the team, has been dealing with a nagging injury that has hindered his availability for competitive cricket. This unfortunate development follows his recent absence from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 due to a thigh injury sustained while fielding for Lucknow Super Giants against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The injury woes for KL Rahul have deepened with the latest revelation that he picked up a niggle during his time at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. This ailment has forced him to miss the first few games of the upcoming Continental Cup, a competition crucial for India’s preparations ahead of the Asia Cup. The chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, confirmed that the team management awaits a comprehensive report on Rahul’s condition before making further decisions.
“KL Rahul picked up a niggle at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He will miss a couple of games. We will wait for a report on him. Sanju Samson will travel with the squad as Rahul’s cover,” Agarkar said in New Delhi.
Sanju Samson has been named as a backup player in the squad to ensure that the team has adequate coverage in the absence of KL Rahul. The Kerala star, known for his versatility as a wicket-keeper batter, will travel with the team as Rahul’s cover. This decision reflects the team management’s commitment to maintaining a balanced and well-prepared lineup, despite unexpected challenges.
