2023 ODI World Cup: Yuvraj Singh Reveals How He Inspired Shubman Gill To Overcome His Dengue Fever

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh expressed optimism about opener Shubman Gill’s timely recovery for the much-anticipated 2023 World Cup showdown against Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad this Saturday. Yuvraj disclosed that he inspired Gill by recalling his own participation in the 2011 World Cup while battling cancer.

Yuvraj Singh has been the mentor of Shubman Gill and has played a pivotal role in making his career. Gill was absent from India’s initial two World Cup matches against Australia and Afghanistan due to illness. While he is currently in Ahmedabad, where India is scheduled to face their arch-rivals Pakistan on Saturday, there remains uncertainty about his availability for the upcoming match.

While speaking to ANI, Yuvraj Singh said that he shared his experience with Gill how he managed to deal with cancer while playing the 2011 ODI World Cup.

“Shubham Gill ko maine tagda kar diya hai [I have strengthened Shubham Gill]. I told him that I had played in the World Cup while battling cancer, so I got ready quickly to join the team. Hopefully, he will be ready for the India vs Pakistan game,” he said.

“When you have a fever and dengue, it is really tough to play a cricket match, and I have experienced that. So I hope that if he is fit, then he will definitely play,” the 41-year-old said.
