2023 ODI World Cup: Why Team India Is Wearing Black Arm Band During The Game Against England

India and England are playing against each other at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. This is the 29th match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. In this match, England has won the toss and has asked India to bat first.

The Indian cricket team’s decision to don black armbands in memory of Bishan Singh Bedi is a poignant gesture, demonstrating their respect and homage to his significant contributions to Indian cricket.

“Team India will be wearing Black Armbands today in memory of the legendary Bishan Singh Bedi who passed away on 23rd October, 2023,” BCCI said in a statement.

Bishan Singh Bedi is widely regarded as one of India’s premier left-arm spinners. He passed away after battling a long-term illness. With his international debut in 1966, he participated in 67 Test matches, amassing a remarkable 266 Test wickets. Additionally, he had the honour of captaining the national team in 22 matches.

Team India stands out as the most consistent team in the current ODI World Cup. They have won in all five of their matches to date. They are determined to secure another win in the competition, maintaining their unbeaten streak.
