2023 ODI World Cup: ‘We Have The Team To Reach The Semis But…’, Shakib Al Hasan’s Bold Statement During The Toss Against Afghanistan

Bangladesh captain and veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is confident that he has a team that can reach the semifinal of the ODI World Cup 2023.

Bangladesh has shown consistent progress in their World Cup performances over the years. Their most notable accomplishments include making it to the Super Eight stage during the 2007 Cricket World Cup and reaching the Quarter-Finals in the 2015 Cricket World Cup. The 2015 edition was the best for Bangladesh as they finished at their highest in tournament history.

During the 2019 World Cup, Bangladesh was eliminated in the league stage. However, Shakib is optimistic that they can improve their performance in the ongoing tournament.

In a post-toss statement ahead of the match against Afghanistan, Shakib expressed his excitement about participating in his fifth World Cup. He also expressed confidence in the team’s capabilities, believing that they have the potential to make it to the semi-finals.

Today(October 7), Bangladesh is facing the Afghanistan Cricket Team at Dharamsala. While having a conversation at the toss, he said, “We will field first. Generally, a ground where chasing is the way to go and there will be help for the pacers as well. So, excited about the game ahead and honored to play my 5th World Cup, and leading Bangladesh is an honor. The guys are excited and we have to take one game at a time. We have the team to reach the semis but we have to take one game at a time and live in the present. It’s a good blend of youth and experience for us.”
