2023 ODI World Cup: ‘Not Virat Kohli But He Should Have Got The Man Of The Match Award’, Aakash Chopra Statement After 243-run Win Against South Africa

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has lauded the performance of star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and said that he should have been given the man of the match award.

Virat Kohli played an exceptional innings and scored an unbeaten 101 from 121 deliveries, which enabled the Men in Blue to establish a target of 327 runs against South Africa in Kolkata on Sunday, November 5. Ravindra Jadeja also made a huge contribution and got an unbeaten 29 from 15 balls and later displayed a remarkable bowling performance with figures of 5/33 in nine overs.

This outstanding teamwork led to the two-time champions dismissing Temba Bavuma’s team for just 83 runs, resulting in a convincing 243-run victory.

While talking about the performance of Jadeja on his official YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said, “Ravindra Jadeja – take a bow Jadeja. He picked up three wickets in Chennai and five wickets here. Jaddu’s specialty is that if you give him a pitch to his liking, he has the potential to run through a side. He has the bowling ability to demolish the opposition.”

The former batter added, “If I had the option to choose the Player of the Match, my Player of the Match would have been Ravindra Jadeja for the simple reason that if you see this tournament, you get an idea of the number of centuries that have been scored and how many five-wicket hauls have been taken. Five-wicket hauls are extremely rare.”

Jadeja became the second Indian spinner to clinch a five-wicket haul in an ODI World Cup game. Before him, Yuvraj Singh achieved a figure of 5/31 against Ireland during the 2011 edition of the tournament in Bengaluru.
