2023 ODI World Cup: Big Blow For Team India, Hardik Pandya Ruled Out Of The Tournament, Replacement Announced

India has suffered a huge blow as the star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out from the 2023 ODI World Cup. Pandya will no longer be able to participate in the rest of the tournament. This unfortunate development is due to an ankle injury that caused him to miss three of India’s matches during the initial league phase.

The reports claim that fast bowler Prasidh Krishna will be taking his place. “India’s unbeaten start to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup has received a massive hit with the news that star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has failed to recover from his ankle injury and will miss the remainder of the tournament,” ICC wrote in a news release on Saturday.

Hardik Pandya sustained an ankle injury during the India vs. Bangladesh match at MCA Stadium in Pune on October 19 while attempting to stop a ball bowled by himself. Consequently, he was absent from India’s matches against New Zealand, England, and Sri Lanka.

After his injury, Hardik Pandya also missed the Bangladesh match and had to undergo scans. He subsequently began the recovery process at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. It’s worth noting that Pandya had initially been part of India’s lineup for the first four matches of the tournament.

Prasidh Krishna has played a total of 17 One Day Internationals. In 2023, he has participated in just three ODIs since his return from injury and he was included in the ODI Asia Cup squad in September.
