2023 ODI World Cup: Ben Stokes Will Play Against South Africa Or Not? The All-rounder Himself Answers

The star all-rounder of England Ben Stokes is looking to make his comeback in the game against South Africa. The English all-rounder has already missed three back-to-back matches in the ODI World Cup due to a hip injury. Stokes has made it to the ODI Cricket after retiring from the game. Now, the comeback of Stokes will definitely boost the confidence of the England team.

Stokes hadn’t represented England since September 13, made a remarkable comeback with a record-breaking unbeaten 182 against New Zealand at The Oval. In the past ten days, he has been actively involved in training sessions, prompting England’s captain, Jos Buttler, to express that he was on the verge of making an appearance in the previous match against Afghanistan in Delhi.

While talking to BBC, Stokes said,”[It was] a frustrating little niggle to get before the tournament starts. But I have worked very hard to get back to where I am and make myself ready to be available for selection, we have had a few days off since the last game and the first training session here in Mumbai. [I will] give it a good push but, yes, I think everything is pretty good. I am in a good place.”

Stokes feels the frustration he felt from being sidelined for the first three matches, but he is now brimming with eagerness to make a meaningful contribution to the team’s success. England is currently facing mounting pressure following their two defeats to New Zealand and Afghanistan and they are keen on reversing their fortunes.

He further stated, “We are only three games into a tournament. There is still a long way to go. It [the loss to Afghanistan] was disappointing at the moment, but at the end of the day, we have lost a game of cricket in a World Cup. Everyone is going to lose games and it’s one of those things we had to deal with quickly, understand that we didn’t perform well but move on, and understand we have a lot more cricket left to play.”
