Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan is expected to become the new mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants. If he joins, he will take over from the previous mentor, Gautam Gambhir, and the new Indian bowling coach, Morne Morkel.
A report from Cricbuzz says that the Lucknow Super Giants are thinking about having Zaheer Khan as their new mentor. His experience in bowling would be very useful for helping the team’s bowlers.
Before this, Zaheer was also considered for the position of bowling coach for the Indian cricket team. In that role, he would have guided the younger fast bowlers. Zaheer has already done this kind of work during his playing career.
If the transfer to Lucknow Super Giants happens, the report says he would work with the Head Coach, Justin Langer, and other coaches like Adam Voges, Lance Klusener, and Jonty Rhodes, among others. It’s also possible that the team might look for another well-known coach, but we don’t know more about that right now.
Zaheer has had a great career playing cricket for his country and has done well as a coach for the Mumbai Indians, who have won the championship five times. If he joins the Lucknow team, his job would be to help the players and the team management communicate better.
Zaheer Khan played 92 Test matches, 200 One Day Internationals, and 17 T20 Internationals for his country. In the IPL, he played 100 games for teams like Delhi Daredevils (now called Delhi Capitals), Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians.
Before the 2025 season of the IPL, there will be big auctions where teams can improve their rosters by choosing from the best available players. The report said that teams will be allowed to keep about six players and use a special card called Right-to-Match (RTM) to bring back a player they previously had. Even though some teams want to stop these big auctions, the BCCI plans to keep doing them for now.
