During the Indian cricket team coaching job interviews, Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman’s names have come up. There’s also a question about the support staff. Some reports say that Gambhir has asked the BCCI for the freedom to pick his own support staff. Right now, with coach Rahul Dravid, Vikram Rathour is the batting coach, Paras Mhambrey is the bowling coach, and T Dilip is the fielding coach. In this situation, both BCCI and Gambhir have received a significant message from former Pakistani cricketer Kamran Akmal.
“India’s cricket team doesn’t need coaches from other countries. They have many choices and talented people. No one can be better than Dravid or Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir was a great player and will be a good coach too. He is the best choice for India right now,” Akmal said in an interview with Times of India.
“Gambhir worked with the Lucknow Super Giants and they did very well with him. He mentored the Kolkata Knight Riders and they won the championship. He is a smart planner and has a great understanding of cricket. I’ve played a lot of cricket with him. We’ve been friends for a long time, sharing meals and conversations. We’re still good friends and keep in touch,” he added.
“He is the perfect person to lead Team India as their coach. He should be the main coach. India could choose Ashish Nehra or Zaheer Khan to be the bowling coach,” Kamran said.
Gambhir’s name was already being considered for the position before he even applied. His ability to lead the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League in 2024 made him the best choice to replace Dravid.
The CAC, chosen by the BCCI to do this task, asked both Gambhir and WV Raman, who were also trying for the job, three main questions, according to Rev Sportz. These questions were:
- What are your thoughts about the team’s coaching staff?
- Since some players are getting older in both batting and bowling, how will you manage the change when they leave?
- What do you think about having two captains, how to keep players fit while managing their work, and why the team hasn’t won any big international trophies?
