Abhishek Sharma stole the show with an all-round performance as India meted out a 150-run beating to England at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in the fifth T20I. At the top of the order, Abhishek carved 135 runs in just 54 balls for the highest individual T20I score by an Indian batter and chipped in with two wickets in one over before taking a catch, ensuring his name goes down as one of the finests in T20I history. For his part, mentor and legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh posted his remarks on the event.
The prudent Yuvraj always takes to his Twitter whenever Abhishek Sharma performs well, but this time it was totally about praise for the 2011 World Cup winner.
“Well played Abhishek Sharma! That’s where I want to see you! Proud of you,” posted Yuvraj on X.
Before this tweet, sarcastically said after this young lad scoring 79 off 34 balls: “Good start to the series boys! Great tone set by our bowlers and well played sir Abhishek Sharma, top knock!! I’m impressed you hit two boundaries down the ground as well.”
In 17 balls, he smashed his fifty and then went on to register one of the fastest tons in 37 balls, reaching the century landmark after just 10.1 overs of the innings, the quickest ever in the history of T20I.
India made 247/9 in their allocation of 20 overs and the bowlers then delivered well too. With regular wickets, India bundled England out for 97.
Two wickets for Varun Chakravarthy, and two for Shivam Dube with Abhishek himself picked one as well. Mohammed Shami returned to the XI and took three wickets at the death.
The win sealed the T20 series with a 4-1 margin for India.
