On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially confirmed the contract extension of Rahul Dravid as the head coach. Alongside Dravid, the extensions of Vikram Rathour as batting coach, Paras Mhambrey as bowling coach, and T Dilip as fielding coach were also announced.
Gautam Gambhir lauded the decision to maintain continuity in the support staff, especially with the T20 World Cup on the horizon. He congratulated Dravid and the support staff, emphasizing the significance of stability as the team approaches crucial tournaments.
Gambhir highlighted the positive aspect of retaining the coaching staff, stating, “It’s a good thing because the T20 World Cup is around the corner, and you don’t want to change the entire support staff, and it is good that Rahul has accepted it.”
Expressing optimism, Gambhir voiced his hope for Team India to maintain its historical dominance and deliver exceptional performances. He stressed the importance of playing good cricket, a hallmark of India’s cricketing legacy.
“Hopefully, we can continue to dominate and play good cricket, what India has done for a long period. The T20 format is different and challenging and hopefully, Rahul and the support staff can deliver. Congratulations to them,” Gambhir told ANI.
Recognizing the unique challenges of the T20 format, Gambhir expressed confidence in Rahul Dravid and the support staff’s ability to navigate and succeed in the upcoming tournament. He extended his congratulations, setting the tone for a promising future.
Rahul Dravid, in response to his contract extension, acknowledged the sacrifices made by his family. He reaffirmed the team’s commitment to excellence and expressed readiness to face new challenges after the World Cup.
Reflecting on the past two years with Team India, Dravid praised the team’s resilience in both triumphant and challenging moments. He highlighted the phenomenal skills and talent within the group, attributing success to following the right processes.
Expressing gratitude to the BCCI and its Office Bearers, Dravid thanked them for trusting his vision and providing support. He acknowledged the demands of the coaching role, recognizing the instrumental role of his family’s sacrifices and support.
