“You Can’t really plan…”Rahul Dravid drops a bombshell on his celebration after winning the World Cup

India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, talked about his enthusiastic reaction after India won the T20 World Cup 2024. India won the final against South Africa by seven runs on June 29th at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. This victory ended India’s 11-year wait for an ICC Trophy and secured their second T20 World Cup win.

After the historic win, Dravid was seen celebrating wildly, shouting loudly and pumping his fists with excitement. His joyful celebration, reminiscent of a child’s, touched the hearts of Indian fans. Recently, Dravid discussed his widely shared celebration, explaining that he simply expressed his feelings because he was very happy for the team.

“You can’t really plan for moments like these. Usually, as a coach, I try to control my feelings, and that’s what’s expected of me. But in that moment, I was truly happy for the team. I was happy for the players. I was happy for the people who help behind the scenes. So many people had worked really hard with me,” Dravid said to Star Sports.

Continuing, Dravid talked about how India hadn’t won an ICC trophy in recent years, even though they had made it to the finals four times since 2017.

“I had been part of the team for about 2.5 to 3 years, and we had been close to winning a few times, like in the semifinals of the last T20 World Cup in Australia, the final of the World Test Championship, or the 50-over World Cup final in India. But we just couldn’t win in those important moments. In those situations, you need a bit of luck or fate to help you, and that day, it was on our side,” he said during the conversation.

Dravid resigned from his role as the head coach of the Indian team after their World Cup victory, which marked the end of his tenure. This win gave Dravid a chance to redeem himself on the same ground where he experienced the lowest point of his cricket career. In 2007, under his captaincy, India was eliminated in the first stage of the ODI World Cup. The 51-year-old retired from his outstanding cricket career by finally holding an ICC Trophy, which he had never won during his professional years.
