IPL 2024 is like a horrible dream for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The team has lost five matches out of their first six matches in the tournament. In spite of having some big names like Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and Cameron Green, the team has failed miserably with both bat and ball.
Recently, former England player Michael Vaughan shared his opinion regarding RCB’s struggle to win the trophy. In his recent interaction on a podcast, Michael Vaughan said that the entire team should act like one unit and don’t depend on one player for a big knock.
Michael Vaughan said, “What I like about the fact that the RCB has never won is that it proves to me that team sports are not just about individuals. You can go and buy all the biggest individual names and put them into a team, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to win, and it’s been proven at the RCB.”
Vaughan further stated that “they’ve signed some incredible players—AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Faf—unbelievable players. But it tells you, unless you get the whole team operating and every single player knowing the roles and identifying different roles, it might be that you have to rejig your team slightly just to allow someone else to flourish in a different position. I don’t see the RCB doing that.”
Vaughan further added that RCB cannot win the IPL unless the role of every player is clearly defined.
Vaughan said, “I don’t see them trying anything different. I just see them thinking that—it’s probably wrong, but again, it’s perception—they just seem to think that because they’ve got great players on this team, the management thinks we’re going to win. It proves to me that even though you’ve got great players, unless you get the team ethic and culture and you absolutely identify everyone’s roles perfectly, you’re not going to win trophies.”
