The dashing Indian batter and skipper of team India Rohit Sharma is celebrating his 37th birthday. Meanwhile, the former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir has given a huge statement regarding Rohit Sharma’s career. The KKR mentor has said that he always believed Rohit Sharma getting a height in his career even after an average start of his career.
In an exclusive chat with Sportskeeda, Gambhir reflected on Rohit’s challenging series in Sri Lanka during his early days. He shared that they had a conversation afterward, during which Gambhir assured the current India captain has the potential to dominate world cricket in the future.
Gautam Gambhir said, “I remember when Rohit Sharma initially came into international cricket, there was a series in Sri Lanka where he hadn’t scored any runs in five matches and there was a lot of criticism. I told only one thing to Rohit, ‘As much knowledge as I have of cricket, and from the cricket that I’ve seen, you are going to dominate world cricket.’. Good that he has been able to dominate world cricket. This was I think around 2008 or 2009.”
Gambhir further said that Rohit Sharma should get all the appreciation and credit for the kind of achievement he has got over the years.
The former KKR captain said, “He had that talent even then. But turning that talent into reality and performance is completely different. So, you’ve got to give it to the man. He didn’t have a very easy start in international cricket, he had a difficult start.”
