At present, young India batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal is on the verge of making history as he is just 132 runs short in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC). Jaiswal is expected to open the batting partner with Rohit Sharma, the captain in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting on September 19 in Chennai. He has so far amassed 1028 runs in WTC 2023-25 and with it he aims to make an entry into history when India takes on Bangladesh in the first Test. Should he score 132 runs over both Tests at this age of 22, he would become the Indian batsman with most runs per edition WTC.
In doing so, he will surpass previous Indian Skipper Ajinkya Rahane who accumulated 1159 runs during the WTC cycle of 2019-21. Notably, Jaiswal is among three other Indians batters (Rahane and Rohit) who have achieved this feat once during one cycle of WTC.
At present, Jaiswal is No. 2 in the WTC 2023-25 scoring charts tied with Ben Duckett of England with a score of 1,028 runs.
To get the top position, he just needs 371 more runs to go ahead of Joe Root who is currently leading that race with 1,398 runs.
The current leader of WTC standings is Indian cricket team with a percentage point of 68.52. The subsequent WTC series for them include Bangladesh at two Tests on their home ground ,New Zealand at three Tests again on their home ground and Australia away at five Tests .
Bangladesh team as well is in good shape since they defeated Pakistan 2-0 to claim their first ever Test series victory on Pakistani soil .They started off strongly winning the first Test by 10 wickets followed by a win by six wickets in the second test.
